Sight Loss Information Line and Vision Support’s Flower Arranging Class in Collaboration with Thistle & Thyme Pink and white flowers and foliage in a pink flower box on a table

Last month, the Sight Loss Information Line and Vision Support hosted its first flower arranging class in the bar area of The Picturehouse, Chester.

The ticketed event was extremely well received, with almost every place filled by our clients in Cheshire West who were keen to learn a new skill in a calm, well-lit and welcoming environment.

A Creative and Accessible Experience

The class was designed to be fully accessible, enabling participants to create their own floral arrangements using touch, scent, colour and texture.

With guidance and encouragement throughout the session from the very talented Ellie, owner of Thistle & Thyme floristry in Chester, who offered her expertise, guidance and joy of floristry, everyone was able to work at their own pace and enjoy the creative process.

As well as learning a new skill, the session provided valuable opportunities for people to meet others with shared experiences, helping to reduce social isolation and build confidence.

Participants who attended on their own left feeling more connected, while many reported feeling happier, more relaxed and positive after taking part.

The accessible nature of the activity enabled participants to engage independently, demonstrating that creativity can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of their level of sight.

The success of this first session has highlighted the value of creative, accessible activities in supporting the wellbeing of people with vision impairments.
