  • A range of meditation videos for beginners and for those who are more experienced and promotes the positive impact that regular meditation can have upon a person’s wellbeing

  • Support to improve physical wellbeing through small exercise videos

  • Mediation music designed to improve ability to focus

  • Motivational wake up stories to help start the day positively

  • SOS sessions to help in moments of panic and/or everyday anxiety

Headspace is accessible by both VoiceOver (Apple’s inbuilt screen reader) and TalkBack/Voice Assistant (Android’s inbuilt screen reader). Your screen-reader will speak the prompts provided within the exercises offered by the app, and will also provide haptic (vibration) feedback. It also features simple images and an accessible font style. Headspace is not a free app; it can be subscribed to annually for £49.99 (working out at £4.17 per month), or you can pay monthly at £9.99 p/m. You can cancel anytime. Current pricing as of 2022.

Calm is an app for meditation and sleep. After completing a quiz to help the app recommend functions to support you based on your needs this app:

  • Provides information and teaches different meditation techniques

  • Provides masterclass on a range of topics aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing

  • Provides personal stats to show progress to help encourage more use

  • Provides “sleep stories” to help send you off to sleep

Calm is functionally accessible with VoiceOver and TalkBack; it will read text but will not describe images. It features intuitive navigation via screen-reader. Calm uses lots of pale pastel colours, so some people may find the colour contrast insufficient. Calm has an annual subscription fee of £28.99. Current pricing as of 2022.

Featuring a bold, simple design, it also has the option to set reminders, take breathing exercises, and keep a journal.

Moodfit is somewhat accessible with screen-readers. It will read text but will not identify images, and is not always intuitive to navigate.

MindLabs is the first live mental health platform with video classes to help build mental resilience. Helps to navigate life’s up and downs and to manage stress and anxiety. Can track progress which can be shared with Apples Health App. Can switch between audio and video to create the best class experience for you.

The app works with VoiceOver and TalkBack but is not always very intuitive to navigate. Like many other apps in this list, MindLabs offers a 7-day free trial. After this, it costs £7.99 p/m or £47.99 annually. Current pricing as of 2022.

iPrevail is a service is designed to offer health and wellness programmes to improve your mental health and build greater resilience. By completing a questionnaire, you are offered a range of courses to choose from. iPrevail also provides support groups to help you to meet people who may have similar experiences. You can learn about the mind, how it works and why we may be having the thoughts we do. The service provides live coaching sessions where you can speak about how you are feeling and have someone to check in with.

The iPrevail website has built-in accessibility options which your screen reader will let you                                           know about as soon as you load the webpage. It also features a clear font with good colour-contrast.
