As we celebrate an incredible 150 years of Vision Support, we’re proud to share the story of one of our amazing supporters who is marking this milestone in a truly inspiring way.

Many of you will already know Jean from her previous fundraising efforts and she’s done it again!

As part of our Club 150 campaign, Jean has taken on a personal challenge that reflects both her determination and her appreciation for the support she’s received from Vision Support.

From 2nd March until the end of May, Jean is swimming 150 lengths every week an incredible commitment and a brilliant way to celebrate our anniversary year.

Jean shared:

“Vision Support means everything to me, it’s helped me since I’ve suffered with my eyes. Having a visit from Tracy the home visitor, we talk about my worries and she puts me at ease. Vision Support has helped me and made my everyday life easier.”

“To say thank you to Vision Support and the amazing team who are now part of my family, I am swimming 150 lengths per week… so they can continue to support people for another 150 years.”

Her words remind us exactly why we do what we do and how powerful the support of our community can be.

A Lifelong Swimmer

At 77, Jean is no stranger to the pool.

She has been swimming for many years and often completes 50 lengths at a time, sometimes even more on a good day. Swimming plays an important role in helping her stay active, independent, and confident.

Jean has a vision impairment herself. In the pool, she uses the blue line at the bottom of the pool as a guide a simple but effective way to stay on track and she is well known and loved by her community.A circular Vision Support Club 150 badge with a gold rim and white centre. Purple text reads “Vision Support” above large gold “150”. Small gold and purple stars surround the design. At the bottom, a purple arc with a circle in the centre sits behind a gold ribbon with the words “CLUB 150”.

Her determination and positive attitude are what make this challenge so special.

Celebrating 150 Years with Club 150

As part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, we launched Club 150 a campaign inviting people to take on a challenge linked to the number 150.

There’s no minimum fundraising target and no “right” way to get involved. Whether you take part on your own, with friends, or as part of a group, every effort makes a difference.

Choose Your 150

You could:

  • Swim 150 lengths
  • Walk or cycle 150 miles
  • Donate 150 minutes of your time
  • Bake or create 150 items
  • Fundraise in your community

Jean’s challenge is a perfect example of how personal and meaningful these challenges can be.

Why It Matters

For 150 years, we have supported people living with vision impairment to:

  • Live independently
  • Stay connected
  • Build confidence
  • Access the support they need

Jean’s challenge highlights the real impact of that support and how it can inspire people to give back and help others.
