Why I Still Love Working at Vision Support
Kate Hurst, Head of HR & Governance
When I’m asked what it’s like to work at Vision Support, especially at the moment, when the sector is facing real challenges with recruitment, retention, and increasing demand for services, I honestly say that it’s busy, sometimes challenging, and rarely dull, but it’s also rewarding in ways that go beyond the day-to-day job.
I work mostly behind the scenes, focusing on operations, governance, and supporting our teams to do their roles safely and effectively. That means I don’t always see the direct impact of our services first-hand, but I do see the dedication, professionalism, and care that our staff and volunteers bring to their work every single day.
And that’s what makes Vision Support special.
What I value most
What I value most about working here is the culture. We have people who genuinely care about doing a good job and supporting each other. When things get busy, and they often do, there’s a strong sense of teamwork and a willingness to step in and help where needed.
Like any organisation, we’ve had periods of change and some tough moments. But we are resilient, honest, and committed to improving how we work.
Looking ahead
We’re constantly investing in changes to strengthen the organisation for the future. This includes improving our systems, developing clearer processes, investing in staff support, and expanding our services to meet growing demand.
There’s still work to do, but there’s also real momentum and a shared focus on moving forward.
Why it matters
Here, I feel valued, my ideas are listened to and explored, and there’s a clear sense of purpose lead from the top. It’s so rewarding to do something meaningful and with purpose, and I’m proud to be part of such a supportive team.
Thinking about joining us?
We want people who share our values and want to be part of a supportive, hardworking team.
