Chester and Flintshire Talking Newspaper, a registered charity, has its own recording studio located in Chester city centre at the Bluecoat Charity Centre. Since 1977 we have been recording and distributing local news to hundreds of visually impaired listeners in the Chester and Flintshire area every week.

Our newspapers and magazine are digitally recorded each week at our studios in Chester. These recordings are then copied to USB memory sticks, and posted out to our listeners. Alternatively our digital version may also be listened to each week by using the links on our Listen Now page via the website

Our Magazine and Newspapers are recorded and delivered throughout the year, with all of the work being undertaken by a dedicated team of volunteers.  Most of our volunteers help out one week in every four, and work as part of a regular team.  Below are some of the roles we are currently recruiting for:

Volunteering Opportunities

An Editor leads the News or Magazine team each week, selecting and preparing articles to be read for each recording and may also take on the role of a reader during the recording session.

Each recording uses a team of readers taking it in turn to read out articles from the local papers, or items of interest, so that there is a variety of voices heard.

The Producer for each team handles the actual recording process, managing the mixing desk, and preparing the finished audio files for duplication at the end of the recording session.

If you would like to volunteer your services in any way to help produce weekly News and Magazines, please contact us on 01244 409000 (we do have an answerphone) or via the website We welcome visitors at the studio either Thursday or Friday evening.

As a charity, our funding comes entirely from donations and grants. We receive no government funding, and do not make any charge to our listeners for the service we provide.
All of the money that we raise goes to funding the production and distribution of our weekly news and magazine recordings. We have to find funds each year to cover the rent for our recording studios, upkeep of our computer recording systems, and purchasing new memory sticks and pouches so that our recordings can be sent out to our listeners. If you are able to support us with fundraising or would like to make a donation, we would love to hear from you on 01244 409000 or through the website
