Social activities and clubs include: walking, ten pin bowling, gardening, arts and crafts, brailling, and general activities groups. Joining one of our social groups is a great way to make new friends and socialise.

The groups that are currently available are listed below.

The North Wales Vision Alliance is a working alliance to enhance, promote, influence and develop services and working practices to meet the expressed needs of people who are blind and partially sighted across North Wales. The Alliance consists of working parties from Vision Support, RNIB Cymru, the North Wales Society for the Blind and the Cardiff Institute for the Blind.

Over the next two years we will be setting up County Steering groups in the six local authority areas. As a first step, we will be mapping out all the clubs for blind and partially sighted people which currently exist and finding out whether there are areas where there is little to offer and activities could be developed.

The next phase will be to contact each group and ask for volunteers to be representatives on the County Steering Groups. We are keen to hear all experiences and to work in partnership with organisations, recognising good practice and helping to improve services for blind and partially sighted people in both the public and private sector.

We need your help in identifying clubs and groups in North Wales. Janette Williams is collating this information and you can email her on janette.williams@visionsupport.org.uk or telephone on 01745 472558.

If you live somewhere you think would benefit from having a group or social club or would like to be in the County Steering Group then please let Janette know.

The Group welcomes new members and organises activities and events. This year, for example, the group has been snow tubing at Llandudno Ski Slope and Snow Board Centre, organised a successful Band Night at the Centenary Club in Wrexham and taken part in Personal Development Workshops. In partnership with UCAN Productions, members of the group are also having Ukulele lessons.
