Vision Support Resource Centres

Our fully trained staff and volunteers at the Vision Support Resource Centres demonstrate and order specialist equipment to assist with daily living. They also have a range of information on our services and other services available locally and nationally.

We currently have three Resource Centres, based in Halton, Wrexham and Chester and we also have a Community Information Service that consists of two vehicles that travel around North Wales and Cheshire visiting various locations to provide the same service.

Vision Support Community Information Service

Vision Support realise that not everyone is able to come to our resource centres and that is why we provide a mobile Community Information Service that visits different locations throughout North Wales, Cheshire and Halton.

The Chester Vision Centre at the Bluecoat Building

The Chester Vision Centre is a drop-in facility in Chester city centre offering peer-to-peer support, advice and training for people with a vision impairment, plus a range of volunteer opportunities open to all. The centre is run by and for blind and partially sighted people who will influence its current

and future work through a project management group. The Vision Centre has been made possible with support from Chester Lions, who raised money to establish the centre, it wouldn’t have happened without their help.

A range of clubs and activities will be run from the Centre. It will also offer advice, information and access to resources (such as equipment to help with daily living).  There will be an emphasis on offering peer-to-peer support and problem solving within the Centre.

The acquisition of skills will also be a priority for both volunteers and service users. Vision Support will offer communication skills training including digital inclusion training and braille lessons.  In addition short courses in ‘Living with Sight Loss’ will be run to ensure people with vision impairment have up to date information on a wide range of relevant issues.
